THE Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for Bayelsa State’s Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, Rodney Ambaiowei, was declared the winner of the supplementary election held yesterday by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The commission also declared Obein Godknows, the All Progressives Congress candidate for Ogbia Constituency 2 in the State House of Assembly, the winner of the supplementary polls.
Ambaiowei and Godknows were both declared winners at the state INEC office in Yenagoa, where results for the rescheduled balloting for the two constituencies were collated.
While Ambaiowei defeated the incumbent APC lawmaker representing the Southern Ijaw federal constituency in the National Assembly, Preye Oseke, Godknows defeated the incumbent PDP lawmaker representing the Ogbia constituency 2 in the state assembly, Munalayefa Gibson.
According to Chris Onyema, the commission’s returning officer for the Southern Ijaw federal constituency and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, Ambaiowei received 13,992 votes, Oseke received 12,992 votes, and Labour Party’s Sikpi Ebipaepere received 498 votes.
For Ogbia constituency 2, INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Ohakwe Johnson, also of the FUO, said that Godknows polled 5, 291 votes, Gibson scored 4, 342 votes while AA party’s Aseimo Dararikparo got 75 votes.
According to the results of the supplementary elections, the PDP has won all of the Bayelsa Senate and House of Representatives seats, while the APC has five of the seven opposition seats in the state House of Assembly.
