CHUKWUEBUKA Ekwueme, age 39, was remanded on Thursday at the Kirikiri Correctional Center by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State’s Ogba district after allegedly trying to kill police inspector Oche Joseph by inflicting serious physical harm on him.
Reports reveal that Ekwueme fatally injured Joseph by striking him with a machete on the right hand and on the head in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.
Magistrate Patricia Ojeh directed that the defendant, who is facing one charge of attempted murder, preferred against him by the police was arraigned.
Inspector Felicia Okwu, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 17, 2023.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 230(a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The charge read, “That you, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, on April 17, 2023, around 10.05am at Makinde Police Station, Mafokuku, Oshodi in the Ikeja Magisterial District did attempt to murder one Inspector Oche Joseph by using a machete to inflict fatal injuries on the back of his head and right hand, causing him grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 230(a) (b) Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Magistrate Ojeh ordered the prosecutor to send the duplicate of the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
