THE Confederation of African Football has invited bids for the hosting rights of two of its competitions: the 2023 Women’s Champions League and the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The continental governing body announced the opening of the bidding process today for the relatively new competitions.
Interested host countries have between now and May 6 to submit their applications, CAF noted.
“The CAF Executive Committee shall be responsible for examining candidatures from National Associations for the organization of the two competitions,” the body said on its website today.
“In line with the requirements, the bid books to be submitted by bidding countries must contain the name of the stadiums hosting the matches, accommodation and transport facilities, training facilities.”
CAF added that there must be government guarantees “including but not limited to entry visas and permits for the whole duration of the competition and a guarantee that any commitment which is formally entered into by the concerned National Association will also be considered as accepted by its government”.
The CAF Women’s Champions League was launched in 2021 with Egypt hosting it and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns emerging as inaugural champions.
Morocco hosted the second edition last year when home side ASFAR won the trophy.
CHAN, the biennial tournament for home-based national teams, has been around for much longer, with Cote d’Ivoire hosting the first edition in 2009.
Sudan, South Africa, Rwanda, Morocco, Cameroon and Algeria have also hosted the competition.
