NIGERIA’s Flying Eagles have arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a 10-day camping programme ahead of this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in the South American country.

A contingent of 20 players and 10 officials departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Saturday night aboard a Turkish Airlines plane and travelled through Istanbul before landing in Argentina today.

The Flying Eagles are in Group D for the tournament alongside Dominican Republic, Italy and Brazil.

Nigeria are seeking their first title in the competition, having finished as runners-up twice: in 1989 in Saudi Arabia and 2005 in The Netherlands.

They finished third in 1985 in the Soviet Union and are hoping to end their wait for the trophy in their 13th appearance at a tournament they first attended in Mexico 40 years ago.

The Flying Eagles qualified for the tournament after finishing third at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in March.

Their first two games in Argentina will be played in Mendoza against the Dominican Republic on May 21 and Italy three days later, before they fly to La Plata to play group favourites Brazil on May 27.

La Plata, Santiago del Estero, San Juan and Mendoza are the four host cities for the 24-nation championship.
