CHELSEA’S Carney Chukwuemeka has been included in the England squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup squad.
The midfielder is one of three players with Nigerian heritage in England’s 21-man squad for the tournament, taking place in Argentina from May 20 to June 11.
The other players with Nigerian blood in the squad are Southampton midfielder Sam Edozie and Brentford defender Daniel Oyegoke.
While Chukwuemeka and Edozie have made appearances for Chelsea and Southampton respectively in the Premier League this season, Oyegoke is yet to make his debut in the English top flight.
Oyegoke, a 20-year-old right-back, was on loan at third-tier side MK Dons for the first half of the season and returned to Brentford in January.
He has played twice for Brentford, both times in the EFL Cup.
Chukwuemeka, Edozie and Oyegoke will hope to emulate Ademola Lookman, the Nigerian forward who won the FIFA U-20 World Cup title with England in 2017.
In Argentina, the Young Lions will take on Tunisia, Uruguay and Iraq in Group E.
They kick off on May 22 against Tunisia, before facing Uruguay three days later.
England’s final group match with Iraq takes place on May 28.
Nigeria, who are in Group D with Brazil, Italy and Dominican Republic, could face England in the round of 16.
If the Flying Eagles win Group D, they will meet the best third-placed teams among those from Groups B, E and F.
Also if England win Group E, they will be up against Nigeria if the Flying Eagles finish second in Group D.
