MAURICIO Pochettino is set to be confirmed as Chelsea’s new manager in the next few days, according to reports.

English outlets and transfer experts, including the BBC, The Athletic and Sky Sports, reported today that the former Tottenham Hotspur manager reached an agreement with Chelsea to become their new boss after weeks of negotiations.

The 51-year-old Argentinian is expected to take charge at the end of the season following a campaign that has seen Chelsea being managed by four different head coaches.

They began the season with Thomas Tuchel as manager but he was replaced with Graham Potter after a poor start.

Potter was sacked after a run of poor results and Bruno Saltor took over briefly before Frank Lampard took over for the rest of the season.

Chelsea have lurched through the campaign posting poor results and performances, with the side losing six of Lampard’s eight games in charge and winning only once.

They are ending the season trophyless and cannot finish higher than their current 11th spot in the Premier League table, ruling them out of Europe for next season.

Pochettino has a reputation for improving players and building a strong side, and his spell at Tottenham Hotspur saw the club reach the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

He also turned Tottenham into a regular Champions League club and Chelsea will hope he can get them back to the top of the English and European game.

Pochettino, who has also worked with Espanyol and Southampton, joined Paris Saint-Germain in January 2021 but, despite leading them to French Cup and a Ligue 1 success, he was sacked after failing to deliver in the Champions League.

He has not worked with another club since the PSG sacking despite links to Manchester United and Real Madrid among others.
