BENUE: Gunmen kill six in Akpete community

SIX persons were reportedly killed by gunmen in Akpete village, Apa Local Government Area, Benue State.

A local named Joseph told newsmen on a phone conversation that the tragedy occurred yesterday evening, when the armed invaders launched an attack on Akpete.

According to Joseph, five bodies were retrieved immediately after the incidentand one additional body was discovered early this morning.

Barrister Eche Akpoko, National Chairman of Apa Development Association, corroborated Joseph’s statement, lamenting that people were being killed on a regular basis in the area.

“It’s a very sad development. Yesterday (Saturday), they attacked Akpete at about 6pm. By this morning, the number of casualties stood at six but we are not definite about the number yet as they keep discovering corpses from corners and bushes.

“As of this morning, the report, I got was that they have discovered six corpses,” Akpoko said.

Also, yesterday, a woman was allegedly raped by four of the gunmen in Ole Abulu village of Agatu LGA, which borders Apa LGA.

When contacted, SP Catherine Anene, a police spokesperson for the Benue command, stated she had yet to receive details of the attacks.
