JUVENTUS are in a losing battle to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League after two major setbacks tonight.
First, the Old Lady got docked 10 points by the Italian Federal Court of Appeal over shady dealings in regards to their finances.
Two hours after the ruling, Juventus were beaten 4-1 by Empoli, who had Super Eagles right-back Tyronne Ebuehi in their starting line-up.
Juventus were found guilty of artificially inflating transfer fees in order to boost capital gains, therefore presenting a false picture of their true finances.
The hearing was held today in Rome, with the prosecutor suggesting an 11-point penalty, an increase from the nine points he had originally requested in January 2023.
Instead, the panel issued a 10-point penalty.
Juventus had recently had a 15-point deduction overturned and have stated that they will appeal the latest verdict.
Their points total in Serie A has dropped from 69 points to 59, sending them from second place to seventh.
To add insult to Juventus’ injury, they were well beaten in tonight’s Serie A clash at Empoli.
Francesco Caputo scored twice and Sebastiano Luperto added another as Empoli took a 3-0 lead within 48 minutes.
Federico Chiesa pulled one back for Juventus five minutes from time but Roberto Piccoli had the final word for Empoli with an added time strike.
Juventus are five points adrift of the Champions League spots with just two games left.
