THE Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, has been released from police custody after completing his bail conditions.

His lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), revealed that he was released at approximately 7.30 p.m. today.

He went on to say that after completing his bail conditions, the musician was released to his family.

They also verified that he would appear in magistrate court tomorrow for the delayed hearings from today. The goal of that process is to obtain guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Earlier today, the Chief Magistrates Court in Lagos’ Yaba district failed to convene in the case against Seun Kuti.

The absence of Magistrate Justice Adeola Olatubosun, who has been hearing the case, was not officially explained, but a source revealed that she was attending a conference.

Seun was transported to the magistrate court, but because the magistrate was not present, he was promptly sent to the Panti police station.

One of Seun Kuti’s lawyers confirmed to newsmen that the case had been adjourned till tomorrow, Wednesday, May 24.

His lawyers also stated that they accompanied the police to Panti to see how they might arrange for their client’s release since the four additionally days of remand given by the court expire today.

Meanwhile, outside the courthouse, a group of people calling themselves members of the “Free Seun Kuti campaign” protested for the afrobeat singer’s immediate release.
