FORMER British Prime Minister Tony Blair made a visit to President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the Defence House in Abuja today.
The visit is coming six days before Tinubu’s inauguration as President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.
Tinubu made this known via his Twitter account.
“I received former British Prime Minister and founder Tony Blair Institute for Good Governance, Mr Tony Blair, at the Defence House, Abuja, earlier today,” the incoming President stated.
“We discussed areas of mutual interests and how Nigeria can continue to benefit from the amazing work of the Institute.”
Those present at the meeting included House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima.
Recall that since Tinubu was declared the victor of the February 25 presidential election, he has received phone calls and words of congratulations from various foreign leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Last Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Tinubu to express his continued commitment to developing the US-Nigeria partnership with the new administration.
According to Spokesperson Matthew Miller, who revealed this in a brief statement, the Secretary stated that the US-Nigeria alliance is built on shared interests and strong people-to-people ties, and that such ties should deepen under President-elect Tinubu’s tenure.
A week later, US President, Joe Biden announced a nine-member delegation for Tinubu’s swearing-in on May 29.
The delegation will be led by Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia L. Fudge.
