THE Multinational Joint Task Force has revealed that over 55 Islamic State-West Africa Province terrorists have been killed including key commanders, in Arege, Malam Fatori, and Abadam Local Government Areas of Borno State.
The Niger Ministry of Defence announced the completion of Operation HARBIN ZUMA, a 22-day operation aimed at ISWAP strongholds.
According to the report, the operation was organized by MNJTF troops from Sectors 3 and 4.
The operation began on May 6, 2023, and ended on May 28, 2023.
The report revealed further that several prominent ISWAP commanders, including Fiya Abouzeid, Qad Abou Oumama, and Qad Malam Moustapha, as well as several religious leaders whose identities are unknown, were killed during the 22-day Operation HARBIN ZUMA.
The Niger-Nigerian Air Task Force and land forces collaborated to find and eliminate the enemy.
The troops destroyed 13 vehicles, 13 motorcycles, and five improvised explosive devices.
During the operation, two soldiers from Nigérienne Sector 4 MNJTF were killed, three were slightly injured, and one phantom Mrap was damaged.
However, the Niger Ministry did not reveal any Nigerian casualties.
The main goal of Operation HARBIN ZUMA was to eliminate terrorists in Aregé, Nigeria.
The operation was also planned to keep pressure on the Islamic State in West Africa, as well as to eliminate any presence of armed terrorist groups in the BOSSO, BAGA, GOUDOUMBALI, and GASHIGAR areas.
The operation also planned to cut off all supply routes for armed terrorist groups and reduce the threat in the region.
