THE Federal Government has stated that it will consider the Trade Union Congress’s (TUC) list of demands, which includes a minimum wage.

Speaking to State House correspondents after a three-hour meeting between the Federal Government and TUC, the Federal Government spokesperson Dele Alake stated that the Federal Government will also consider the practicability of the proposals.

Among things the government is considering is tax holidays for workers.

Alake stated that President Bola Tinubu will form a tripartite committee comprising of states, organized labor, and the private sector to investigate the dynamics of the minimum wage increase in order to achieve an acceptable conclusion.

He added that there is no disagreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over their demand for a review of the minimum wage or a return to the status quo, noting that FG representatives will meet with the President to finalize decisions on the requests.

He went on to say that the absence of the NLC does not imply that the organization is isolated in the debate, but that the FG is making efforts to reach them, since the parties agreed to reconvene on Tuesday, 24 hours before the NLC’s scheduled strike.

Meanwhile, the TUC has maintained that, in the interest of social dialogue, the Federal Government should reverse the fuel price while discussions continue.

The President of the TUC, Festus Osifo, stated that the union is hopeful since the Federal Government has committed to look into their demands, the most important of which is the review of the present minimum wage, among others.
