NOVAK Djokovic is one win away from becoming the player with the most Grand Slam men’s singles titles in history after beating Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open in Paris today.
The 36-year-old Serb defeated the 20-year-old Spaniard 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-final at Roland Garros to reach his second Grand Slam final this year.
World No.1 Alcaraz was going toe to toe with the legendary Djokovic before the youngster cramped up at the beginning of the third set and could no longer compete physically.
Djokovic has now won 20 straight Grand Slam matches, which included the runs to last year’s Wimbledon and this year’s Australian Open titles.
He missed last year’s final Grand Slam, the US Open, due to his refusal to take the Covid-19 vaccine, which was a mandatory requirement to enter the United States of America at the time.
Djokovic has now reached the 34th major final of his hugely successful career, which is a record, and will surpass Rafael Nadal in terms of titles if he wins Sunday’s final.
Both men have won 22 Grand Slam titles each, the most in men’s tennis history, and success at Roland Garros will leave Djokovic alone at the top.
