KANO: Police arrest 57 more suspects over looting

THE Kano State police command has made tremendous success in apprehending criminals involved in looting and criminal activities in an effort to preserve the lives and property of the people.

According to the most recent report, 57 more people have been arrested for criminal trespass, mischief, and larceny.

These arrests are in response to reports received by the command of opportunistic looting during the Kano State government’s demolition of unlawful buildings and structures.

With the latest arrests, the total number of suspects has risen to 106, all of whom have been charged at Magistrate Court 35 Normans Land Kano.

These suspects were apprehended in addition to the previous 49 suspects.

Furthermore, law enforcement agencies have discovered various exhibits related to the crimes.

The police have asked victims of these crimes to approach the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bompai, Kano State Police Command, as soon as possible to offer their testimonies and identify any stolen items. They can help the investigation and possibly reclaim their items by doing so.

Commissioner of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel expressed gratitude to those who supplied critical information that led to these arrests and the recovery of seized property, emphasizing the importance of joint responsibility in effective policing.

He also urged parents and community leaders to counsel and warn their children and youths against participating in looting operations.

“The Commissioner warned that any individuals arrested in connection with such crimes will face the full force of the law.”

In a statement delivered by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Commissioner of Police urged the public to “remain vigilant and work hand in hand with law enforcement agencies to uphold peace and security in the state.”

He reminded Kano State residents that the police are devoted to their safety and will go to any length to fight criminal activity.

He added that the recent arrests serve as a message to potential offenders that their crimes would not go unpunished as the Kano State Police Command would continue its unrelenting pursuit of justice.

He noted further that the Kano State govt hopes to preserve a calm and safe environment for all of its citizens with the public’s help and cooperation.
