REVEREND Father Jeremiah Yakubu, the kidnapped Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been released by his kidnappers.

Father Jeremiah Yakubu is the Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Karku, Kaduna State’s Kauru Local Government Area.

The Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Father Emmanuel Okolo, confirmed this, saying that the kidnapped priest was released this evening.

He did not, however, say whether or not a ransom was paid before the abducted priest was released.

Yakubu was abducted around 11 p.m. on Sunday from the church rectory in Kauru Local Government.

Kidnapping for ransom is frequent in Nigeria’s northern and central areas. Kaduna state is one of the hardest hit.

Religious clerics and peasants from vulnerable groups in the state have been kidnapped. Some of them were killed in captivity, while others were released when a ransom was paid.
