FOLLOWING the suspension of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, the agency’s Director of Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkol, is expected to take over in an acting capacity.

President Bola Tinubu ordered the embattled anti-graft czar to step aside awaiting the outcome of an investigation into “weighty allegations” leveled against him.

While Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in a statement signed by him has asked Bawa to hand over to the Director of Operations at the commission.

Investigations however, reveal that Abdulkarim Chukkol, a Principal Detective/Investigator of the Commission, would be in charge of affairs until another substantive head of the anti-graft body was chosen.

Chukkol earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maiduguri in 2000 and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia in the United States of America in 2011.

The detective, who joined the EFCC in 2003 and progressed through the ranks to become Principal Detective and Director of Operations, also held a Diploma in Cybersecurity and Spectrum Monitoring.

Chukkol was also at the FBI National Academy at Quantico at some point. He also previously led the commission’s zonal office in Port Harcourt before being sent back to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

He then took over as Director of Operations from Mohammed Abba, who had since returned to the Nigeria Police Force after acting as Acting Chairman of the commission after Magu was suspended.
