THE crescent moon for Zil Hajj has been sighted, in Saudi Arabia, indicating that Eid Al Adha would be performed on Wednesday, June 28.
According to a Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court declaration, the first day of the month will be Monday, June 19.
The UAE will also make an announcement today regarding the crescent sighting.
The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and some other Gulf countries usually celebrate Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha on the same days.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday encouraged Muslims to keep an eye out for the Crescent moon today.
Abubakar, the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), issued the decision in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in Sokoto.
He then prayed to Allah to assist all Muslims in carrying out their religious duties.
Dhul-Hijjah is the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims attend Hajj and celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Sultan had not made an announcement in Nigeria at the time of reporting this article.
