THE Court of Appeal’s Calabar Division today confirmed Senator Bassey Albert Akpan’s conviction for money laundering by a Federal High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and ordered his arrest.

This was made public by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today through a statement from Wilson Uwujaren, the organization’s head of media and publicity.

It stated that on December 1, 2022, Justice Agatha Okeke found Akpan guilty of seven counts of money laundering brought by the EFCC against him and sentenced him to 42 years in jail without the possibility of a fine.

The Young Progressive Party candidate for governor at the time was charged with collecting automobiles worth N240 million as bribes from businesses connected to one Olajide Omokore.
