NIGERIA’S D’Tigress began their 2023 Women’s AfroBasket Championship quest in Kigali, Rwanda today with a 69-35 blowout of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The champions displayed their superiority all through the game, dominating in all the quarters.
D’Tigress breezed through the first quarter 16-8 and edged the second quarter 13-10 to take a healthy 11-point advantage into half-time.
Congo put up some resistance at the start of the second half by restricting the third quarter score to 17-14.
However, the Nigerian ladies stepped on the gear in the final quarter, cutting through it 23-3 to complete the 34-point victory.
Ifunaya Okoro led D’Tigress in scoring with 11 points while Congo’s Gracia Nguz led the game with 12 points.
Pallas Kanaiyi-Akpanah contributed 10 rebounds while Sarah Ogoke has two assists.
D’Tigress, who are aiming for a record fourth D’Tigers title, next play Egypt on Sunday.
