MOISES Caicedo will be joining Chelsea instead of Liverpool for a British record fee.
The Ecuador midfielder was on his way to Liverpool on Friday after Brighton agreed a £111m deal with the Reds, but Caicedo preferred Chelsea, who had offered N100m.
Chelsea, who had been linked with the 21-year-old for weeks before Liverpool’s attempt to hijack the move, have now upped their offer to £115m and reached an agreement with Brighton.
According to multiple reports in England tonight, Chelsea will pay a guaranteed £100m plus another £15m in performance-related add-ons.
He is expected to undergo his medical tests tomorrow, after which he will sign an eight-year contract with an option for another year.
Caicedo joined Brighton in February 2021 for €5m from Ecuador’s Independiente, and made 53 appearances for the English club after spending half a season on loan at Belgian club Beerschot.
He almost joined Arsenal in January when they made a big bid and he handed in a transfer request, but Brighton rejected the offer and extended his contract.
