THE Nigeria Football Federation has congratulated the new Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, on his appointment, and promised to work with him to develop football in the country.

Enoh, a former university lecturer and long-term lawmaker, was named as sports minister by President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.

“The NFF is willing and fully ready to co-operate and collaborate meaningfully and positively with you to harness the potential locked in Nigerian football to take it to a whole new level of a thriving industry, capable of employing millions of people and contributing significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product,” the national football governing body said in a letter to Enoh, signed by its president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau.

“Having been availed of Your Distinguished’s political, entrepreneurial and philanthropic trajectory over the years, we are in no doubt that you possess the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to justify the confidence reposed in you by His Excellency, by growing Nigerian football, nay sports, exponentially to fulfil its huge potential.”

Enoh, 57, is a two-term member of the House of Representatives and one-term member of the Senate, who was until 2017 a member of the People’s Democratic Party before defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He replaces Sunday Dare, who was Nigeria’s minister of youth and sports development between 2019 and 2023.
