VICTOR Osimhen began the new campaign the way he finished the last one by scoring twice in Napoli’s Serie A opener against Frosinone tonight, while his compatriot Cyriel Dessers was also on target for Rangers.

Super Eagles striker Osimhen was the top scorer in the Italian first division last season with 26 goals as Napoli won their first Scudetto in 33 years, and he was the main man again tonight.

He scored once in each half as the champions won 3-1 at promoted Frosinone.

After Abdou Harroui had given Frosinone a shock lead from the penalty spot in the seventh minute and Matteo Politano had pulled Napoli level in the 24th minute, Osimhen flashed home a fierce drive from just inside the box to give his side the lead three minutes from half-time.

The prolific Nigeria international then made sure of the three points with a composed finish 11 minutes from time after he was put clean through by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Osimhen was taken off two minutes after his second goal to applause from the travelling fans as Napoli got the defence of their title off to a great start.

In Scotland, Dessers scored Rangers’ equaliser from the penalty spot in the 60th minute as they came from behind to defeat fifth-tier Greenock Morton 2-1 in their Scottish League Cup second round tie.

The 28-year-old Super Eagles striker has now scored twice in five appearances for Rangers since joining them for €5m from Cremonese in July.
