CARNEY Chukwuemeka scored his first Premier League goal for Chelsea today but they were still beaten 3-1 by West Ham at the London City Stadium.
The England youth international with Nigerian heritage pulled Chelsea level after Morocco defender Nayef Aguerd had given the hosts an early lead.
Goals from Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta then sealed a famous win for West Ham despite Aguerd being sent off with almost 30 minutes left in the encounter.
Aguerd opened the scoring with a seventh-minute header before he was sent off in the 67th minute for his second bookable offence.
Chukwuemeka then opened his Chelsea account with a fine finish in the 28th minute, firing in from inside a crowded box after tricking his way past a West Ham defender.
Big-spending Chelsea had a golden opportunity to make it 2-1 two minutes before half-time, but £106 million man Enzo Fernandez saw his penalty saved by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Antonio put West Ham back in front with a powerful strike in the 53rd minute, before the hosts were reduced to 10 men.
Moises Caicedo, the Ecuador midfielder signed for an initial £115m, had a chance to make it 2-2 but blazed over from the edge of the penalty box.
He then gave away a penalty with a foul on Emerson and Paqueta calmly converted in the fifth minute of stoppage time to seal the big win for West Ham.
