SAUDI Arabian club Al-Ittihad are reportedly keen to sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool and make him the highest paid player in the world.
Egypt forward Salah is the latest big name on the radar of the oil-rich kingdom, and the Saudi Arabia Pro League champions are said to be putting pressure on the prolific star to join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante in the country.
Spanish outlet Relevo revealed today that Al-Ittihad are convinced Salah is interested in the move, with Sky Sports adding that Liverpool are adamant that their top scorer is not for sale.
The European transfer window will close on September 1 but the Saudi window will be open for a few days longer.
Salah, who has two years left on his current contract, would be linking up with Karim Benzema if he makes the move to Al-Ittihad.
The offer to the Egyptian in terms of wages, according to several outlets, would eclipse the world record €200 million-a-season deal Ronaldo signed in January with Al Nassr.
Relevo also claimed that the 31-year-old Salah wants to leave the Premier League giants, and that his representatives have met with Al-Ittihad officials in Dubai to work towards reaching an agreement.
It added that Salah’s religious beliefs are a key part of his thinking, with Islam the official religion of Saudi Arabia.
However, Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa stated back when the transfer was first muted weeks ago that the wide forward had no plans to leave Liverpool.
He wrote on X/Twitter: “If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed remains committed to LFC.”
