MAURICIO Pochettino has set himself a target of winning all the trophies Chelsea are competing for this season.
With the club out of Europe having finished a disappointing 12th last season, they will be playing in three domestic competitions — the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup — and Pochettino wants to win them all.
“I want to win the Carabao Cup, win the FA Cup and win the Premier League. There is no time to waste,” said Pochettino, who never won any trophy in England in his years in charge of Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
Pochettino was speaking today in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup second round clash against Wimbledon.
The Argentinian hinted at what his line-up would look like, suggesting that he would rest some key players.
“We are going to use four or five young guys. Chelsea always produce good talent and now it’s a good opportunity,” he said.
“It’s not our philosophy at the moment but it’s because we need to bring young guys to the first team because we have some players who can’t play tomorrow.
“The academy and the coaches there are working so hard and it’s good to have players from the academy involved.”
On England forward Raheem Sterling, who has started the new season in blistering form by scoring two goals in three Premier League matches, Pochettino said: “He deserves the credit. We just create a platform for players to be their best, to feel comfortable and perform.
“When players like him perform like he has in the last few games it’s about finding the responsibility from within and he deserves the credit.”
