SUPER Eagles striker Paul Onuachu was on target tonight for his new club Trabzonspor but it was not enough to rescue them from a 3-2 defeat at Hatayspor, who had Fisayo Dele-Bashiru on the score sheet.
Onuachu, who joined the Turkish Super Lig club this month on loan from Southampton, has now scored two goals in his first two appearances for Trabzonspor.
The towering Nigeria international assisted Edin Visca for the opening goal of the game just before half-time and netted his own around the hour mark.
Onuachu’s goal gave Trabzonspor a 2-0 lead with about 30 minutes left but they still lost as Dele-Bashiru, born in Germany to Nigerian parents, sparked a Hatayspor comeback.
The younger brother of former Nigeria U-20s midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru set up Hatayspor’s equalising goal with two minutes to full-time and struck the winner in stoppage time.
With the result, Hatayspor climbed above Trabzonspor to fourth place with 10 points from six matches, one more point than Onuachu’s side.
Onuachu has regained his scoring form after struggling at Southampton, who he joined in January from Genk in Belgium.
On his part, Dele-Bashiru made the switch to Turkey from Sheffield Wednesday and the midfielder has scored four goals in six appearances for his new club.
