KELECHI Iheanacho is expecting his Leicester City side to give Liverpool a tough time in their Carabao Cup third round clash tonight.

Leicester City, who are on top of the second-tier Championship table, face the second-placed Premier League side at Anfield tonight in one of several Carabao Cup fixtures.

“We’re excited,” the Nigeria international told his club’s website. “We know what Anfield is like. It’s a great atmosphere there. We’re not going there for the atmosphere, we’re going there to compete.

“We played them in pre-season and we’re in a good place now. We’re winning games. It’s a cup game, but we know what they’re like. They’re a strong side, they’ve been doing well this season in the Premier League.

“They’re going to be strong for us, but we need to really work hard to get the win. Hopefully we’ll do that so let’s see what comes out of that. They press really well. We have to be careful of that as well.

“We’ll try to give them a game, but we know they’re a strong side.”

The Foxes are in fine form, winning seven of eight league fixtures, and steered past Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool are also on a good run, with victories in their last six outings in all competitions, and are only two points adrift of Premier League champions and leaders Manchester City in the table.

Iheanacho has been left in optimistic mood by Leicester City’s record-breaking start to the new season, and hopes they will maintain their good form going forward.

“So far, so good,” the Super Eagles forward added. “It’s difficult games at home and away. It’s a tough league. There’s a lot of games, so we’ve done well as a result. We’ve won three games in a row now, so hopefully we can keep that doing.

“We’ve got a cup game next, but when we come back from that, we’ll refocus on the Championship game on Sunday. Hopefully we’ll get another win and keep climbing the stairs.

“It felt so good for us as a group after the Bristol City game, as a team. That win put us top of the table so everyone was really happy. It was really good. It was a great effort from the whole team. We defended really well and attacked well too.

“It was a great shift in a difficult game. We’ll move on from that now and get onto the next one.”

Leicester City’s new manager Enzo Maresca is implementing a more positive style of football and Iheanacho is enjoying working with the Italian.

“It’s a new style and we’re adapting to it,” the former Manchester City star explained.

“Everyone knows what Enzo is like. We’ll keep repeating the work and changing little things. Enzo keeps bringing a lot of ideas for us. We’ll keep trying them in training.

“It’s something that will help us in the games and hopefully we can surprise the opponent. We are really doing well. Enzo is a top manager and, with his coaches, hopefully we can keep learning and keep winning games.”
