NIGERIA’S representatives Bendel Insurance have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup by Moroccan club RS Berkane.
The Moroccans won 1-0 last night in Berkane and progressed to the group stages 3-2 on aggregate.
The first leg at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City ended 2-2 two weeks ago after 2020 and 2022 winners of the competition RS Berkane fought back twice to earn the draw.
With the elimination of Insurance, the only Nigerian club left in continental competition this season is Rivers United.
The Port Harcourt-based side are also in the Confederation Cup and host Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante tomorrow at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in the second leg of their final qualifying round tie.
The first leg, which was played at the Municipal Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire, ended 0-0 and a win by any margin would take Rivers United to the group phase.
Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba and runners-up Remo Stars had earlier been sent packing from the CAF Champions League in the first qualifying round.
