VICTOR Osimhen and his Napoli side were beaten 3-2 at home by Real Madrid tonight in the UEFA Champions League just as Manchester United and Arsenal suffered shock defeats and Bayern Munich snatched a late win.
Napoli scored first against the 14-time champions and levelled at 2-2 after going behind, but the Spaniards eventually earned all three points in a dramatic night at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Leo Ostigard headed the Serie A champions into the lead in the 19th after Osimhen’s initial header found its to the defender.
Real Madrid hauled themselves back level eight minutes later through Vinicius Jr, who just returned from an injury lay-off, and the prolific Jude Bellingham handed them the lead before half-time.
Piotr Zielinski equalised for the hosts from the penalty spot nine minutes into the second half but an own goal from goalkeeper Alex Meret 12 minutes from time ensured Real Madrid left Italy with their second win in two games.
Osimhen, who is Napoli’s top scorer this season with five goals in all competitions, played all 90 minutes as his side fell to second in the table, level on points with Sporting Braga, who came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Union Berlin in the evening kick-off.
There was also drama at Old Trafford as Manchester United’s slump continued with a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray.
The English hosts led twice through Rasmus Hojlund but Galatasaray equalised quickly each time, with former United player Wilfried Zaha and Kerem Akturkoglu netting.
The struggling Red Devils then gave away a penalty and went one man down after Andre Onana’s error led to Casemiro commiting a foul in the box and earning a second yellow card.
Mauro Icardi screwed the spot kick wide in the 78th minute but took advantage of United’s wide open defence to score three minutes later as the Turkish side secured their first-ever win in England.
With the result, United second consecutive home defeat in all competitions and their second straight loss in this season’s Champions League, Ten Hag’s side are bottom of Group A, while Galatasaray are second with four points.
Bayern Munich retain their top spot in the group with six points from two games after coming from behind to win 2-1 at FC Copenhagen.
In France, Arsenal were beaten for the first time this season in all competitions as they lost 2-1 to Lens.
The Gunners scored first through Gabriel Jesus in the 14th minute but the Ligue 1 hosts pulled level with an Adrien Thomasson strike 11 minutes later, and Elye Wahi netted the winner in the second half.
Arsenal fell to second spot in Group B with three points from two matches, one point behind Lens and one above Sevilla, who drew 2-2 with bottom team PSV Eindhoven.
In other Champions League clashes tonight, Real Sociedad defeated Red Bull Salzburg 2-0 and Inter Milan beat Benfica 1-0, both in Group D.
