A REPORT in Spain has claimed that Barcelona are tracking Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi with plans to sign him in the summer.
The Nigeria international has been in superb form for Leicester City in the English second tier this season following their relegation from the Premier League and he has reportedly caught the attention of the LaLiga champions.
Spanish outlet Sport reported today that Barca are looking for a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets, who left for Inter Miami in the United States of America after over a decade of excellence at Camp Nou.
Barcelona re-signed 32-year-old Oriol Romeu to temporarily fill the big void left by Busquets in holding midfield but they now want a younger player for the long term.
According to Sport, 26-year-old Ndidi is one of the players high on the list of possible recruits Barcelona are considering.
Sport added that Barcelona are keen on a player that will suit their lean pockets, and Ndidi is highly recommended because he will not cost much.
The Super Eagles star’s current contract runs out in June next year and there are indications that he is not likely to sign an extension.
With less than a year left on his contract, Ndidi would cost Barcelona nothing much if they were to move for him next summer.
According to Sport, Barcelona are not the only club interested in Ndidi, with Bayern Munich also eyeing the Nigerian, and the Spaniards might have to make a decision quickly.
Ndidi joined Leicester City from KRC Genk in January 2017 for around £17 million.
He has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, registering three goals and four assists. Overall, he has played 251 times for the club with 14 goals and 15 assists.
