SIXTY-SEVEN bandits were killed in a joint operation by the police, army, local hunters, and vigilantes in the Lere District of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, yesterday twenty nine kidnap victims were also freed by security forces.
The governor, who revealed this during a visit to the security operatives working in the area, commended the combined security team’s gallantry and assured them of continued moral and financial support in the efforts to secure Bauchi State and its citizens while also announcing a N10 million donation with 30 motorcycles to the hunters and vigilantes who participated in the rescue operations of the kidnapped victims.
He admonished traditional rulers against granting bandits rights of way and providing accommodation in their lands fkr them.
He noted that erring traditional rulers who violate their duties for inducements are not only unpatriotic, but also more dangerous than the bandits.
The governor also stated that the Internal Security Ministry, which his administration established, is planning to engage a number of youths who will be trained by conventional security operatives as part of his efforts to fulfill his oath of office of securing the lives and properties of the people of the state.
In his remarks, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration of other security agencies in combating crime and criminality in the state, assuring the state government and other stakeholders of the state’s continuing maintenance of a peaceful environment.
