THE Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has encouraged Nigerian Army forces to eliminate terrorists as the country combats insurgency operations in the North-East.

The CDS today, addressed troops of Operation Hadin Kai at the Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, and instructed them to hunt and kill Boko Haram terrorists before they assault Nigerians.

Musa charged the forces with taking the fight to the rebels, saying that no soldier is complete unless he or she kills at least one Boko Haram fighter in the theatre.

“Don’t just come and sleep in the theatre, make sure you look for Boko Haram and kill. Anybody who comes to the theatre and finishes without killing one Boko Haram is not complete,” he stated.

“So you must make sure before you go, look for them, that’s the only way we can finish them completely.

“They should not be looking for us, we should be looking for them. Do not go and sit down until they attack and we repel, there is nothing like repel, go and find and kill them.”

The CDS took advantage of the visit to express gratitude to the troops for their efforts and devotion.

He urged them to continue the offensive against the militants, promising them that the insurgency in the region will be gone shortly.

In terms of troop plans, Musa remarked that the Army and Defence Headquarters have implemented a reward system for meritorious personnel who have performed well.

According to him, the goal is not simply to discipline misbehaving troops. He did, however, warn that any soldier discovered selling weaponry and ammunition would face severe consequences.

The defense chief also stated that plans were in the works to ensure that no soldier spent more than two years in the North-East theatre of operation.
