SUPER Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has demanded improvement from his attacking players after their wastefulness in the 2-2 draw in a friendly match against Saudi Arabia last night.
The three-time African champions conceded deep into stoppage time in Portimao, Portugal as Saudi Arabia prevented a seventh straight defeat.
Nigeria had enough chances in the first half to go into the break at least 3-0 up but those opportunities were missed, with Samuel Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman the chief culprits.
Saudi Arabia then took the lead in the second half following an error from goalkeeper Francis Uzoho but an own goal and a fine hit from Kelechi Iheanacho turned it around for Nigeria before Roberto Mancini’s side rescued a point with a free-kick in the 10th minute of stoppage time.
“It was a good game. We did well, especially in the first half, but we should have done better,” Peseiro said during his post-match interview.
“I think we could have scored about three to five goals and in the second half as well. We created more chances in the second half but we need the killer instinct in this squad but I’m happy with the result.
“We had some situations where our final ball was not good enough too.
“Overall, it was a good performance against the last team that beat Argentina. They tried to beat us too.”
The Super Eagles will face Mozambique in their second friendly in Portimao on Monday night.
