PLATEAU: Seven dead, properties destroyed in electric cable fire

SEVEN persons were reported dead and several others were injured in a fire that broke out at Kabong, Gada Biyu in Plateau State’s Jos North Local Government Area.

The fire, which occurred in the early hours of today was caused by a high tension cable that became entangled with service lines that supplied electricity to the town, resulting in the loss of lives and property.

The highly populated community is both residential and commercial and as a result led to the fire consuming goods at the business premises.

A household in the community lost two members of the same family Naomi David, 54, and Abraham David, 39, who both died while attempting to disconnect one of the appliances during the incident.

The deceased’s remains were placed in the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where some of the injured were treated and those with serious burns were sent to the Jos University Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, a team from the Jos Metropolitan Development Board visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage inflicted by the flames and to work on ways to prevent future occurrences.
