THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the Rivers State conflict, urging all sides to sheathe their swords.

The governors issued a communique this evening after meeting at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja to discuss the oil-rich state’s situation and other national issues.

The conference today followed the upheaval in the oil-rich state, where Governor Sim Fubara was impeached.

Since then, a factional speaker has arisen in the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the House leader has also removed Edison Ehie, who has been accused of masterminding the fire incident at the Assembly premises late Sunday.

President Tinubu intervened in the crisis, summoning Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

On the same day, Wike promised a delegation of South-South leaders in Abuja that the PDP will address the situation amicably.

Earlier, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) urged the sides to sheathe their swords and settle the dispute calmly.

The PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba in a statement said the party has “commenced processes, using the Party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms to ensure that all matters and areas of disagreement are addressed”.

“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, and members of our great Party in Rivers State to close ranks, unite, and focus on the onerous task of governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people,” he added.
