MOHAMED Salah and Declan Rice lead the nominations for the October English Premier League Player of the Month, with Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo also among the nominees.

The six nominees for the award were announced today by the Premier League, with Douglas Luiz, Pedro Neto and Christian Romero completing the shortlist.

Egypt forward Salah had a brilliant October with Liverpool, scoring five goals as the Reds won two matches and drew the other one.

On his part, Rice, who joined Arsenal for over £100 million from West Ham in the summer, was instrumental in the Gunners remaining unbeaten in the league.

The England midfielder played a key role in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Manchester City, while his goal at Chelsea propelled Mikel Arteta’s side to a comeback from 2-0 down. He then set up the opener in the 5-0 success against Sheffield United.

Brentford’s Mbeumo has stepped up in the long absence of the banned Ivan Toney, producing two goals and two assists in four matches for the Bees in October.

Neto had three assists for Wolves in October as they went unbeaten with one win and two draws, helping the club recover from a slow start to the campaign.

Argentina’s World Cup-winning star Romero is the only defender in the shortlist and the centre-back was outstanding as Tottenham Hotspur kept their spot at the head of the standings.

Romero played in all of Spurs’ three victories in October, helping to keep two clean sheets against Luton and Fulham.

He also made 141 passes in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, the most on record by a Spurs player in a Premier League match.

Public votes, which close on Monday, will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winner, who will be announced next week.
