THREE Nigerian players in three different leagues across Europe — Paul Onuachu, Victor Boniface and Frank Onyeka — played pivotal roles today as their clubs all won.
In Turkey, Onuachu was on target for Trabzonspor in their 3-2 Super Lig victory at Fenerbahce, who had Super Eagles right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel in their starting line-up.
The towering Onuachu, who is on loan from Southampton, struck for the visiting Trabzonspor in the 10th minute to take his tally for the season to four goals and one assist in seven Turkish Super Lig appearances.
In Germany, Super Eagles striker Boniface continued his hot streak for Bayer Leverkusen, setting up two goals in their 3-2 Bundesliga win at Hoffenheim.
Boniface assisted the first and third goals for Bayer Leverkusen and played for 88 minutes, incidentally the same as his national team colleague Kevin Akpoguma, who started in the Hoffenheim defence.
The 22-year-old Boniface has now registered seven goals and five assists for table-topping Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga since joining them from Union St Gilloise in August.
Boniface is the top scorer and top assist maker for the Bundesliga leaders so far this term.
In the English Premier League, Onyeka took full advantage of a rare start to assist one of the goals in Brentford’s 3-2 victory over West Ham at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Super Eagles midfielder set up the game’s opening goal for Neal Maupay in the 11th minute but Brentford went down 2-1 before recovering to take all three points.
It was the first goal involvement for 25-year-old Onyeka this season and his second start in nine Premier League games.
The victory lifted Brentford to ninth in the Premier League standings, two spots and two points above West Ham.
