THE Federal Government met with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) today to discuss the suspension of the ongoing strike.

The meeting, which took place in the office of the President’s National Security Adviser, was attended by the TUC President, Festus Osifo; the NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja; and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, among others.

At the conclusion of the closed-door meeting, both the Minister of Labour and the President of the Trade Union Congress stated that they had a robust discussion about the issues at hand.

According to a Ministry of Labour statement, the unionists vowed to go back to their members and evaluate their request to call off the strike.

Meanwhile, the TUC President told Channels Television that no real guarantees were made about suspending the strike until they see action from the government on their demands.

Among other things, the labor leaders have demanded that individuals who attacked the NLC President in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, be arrested and prosecuted.
