Victor Osimhen intensifies training, nears Napoli return

VICTOR Osimhen is on his path back to full fitness as his club Napoli provided an update on his training schedule.

The Super Eagles striker has been out of action since October 13 when he limped out of the friendly against Saudi Arabia in Portugal.

He left for Italy after that match and missed the friendly against Mozambique three days later.

After tests, he was discovered to have sustained a hamstring strain and has missed several games for club and country since then.

Osimhen, top scorer for both Nigeria and Napoli, was unavailable for Serie A and UEFA Champions League fixtures for Napoli and missed the two World Cup qualifiers with the Super Eagles this international window, during which they played disappointing 1-1 draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

While providing training updates today ahead of Saturday’s Serie A fixture at Atalanta, Napoli had positive news about Osimhen.

“Osimhen, Meret and Zielinski carried out an initial part of group work and then individual training in the gym,” the club noted on their official website today.

Sky Sport Italia also reported that the 24-year-old spent longer on the pitch at the SSCN Konami Training Centre than in previous days.

If the Atalanta game comes too soon for Osimhen, he should be available for next Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Real Madrid.

Osimhen will play under a new head coach at Napoli when he eventually returns, as Rudi Garcia has been fired and replaced with Walter Mazzarri.
