SUPER Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has been nominated for the Community Impact Award at the Texas Sports Awards in Houston, Texas, United States of America.
The 26-year-old full-back is being honoured for her work as a cancer research technician at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Alozie is a key member of a research team whose task is to identify alternative treatments for acute myeloid leukemia.
The Houston Dash star, who was born in California, USA to Nigerian parents, has a
Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from the prestigious Yale University and works part-time as a cancer research technician at the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Alozie made her debut for Nigeria in June 2021 against Jamaica and was in the squad that finished a disappointing fourth at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in 2022.
She was also one of the Super Falcons’ standout players at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where the Nigerian ladies reached the round of 16 and only lost on penalties to European champions England.
The Houston Sports Awards will take place on January 30, 2024, with Houston Astros pitcher and World Series champion Lance McCullers Jr. serving as the host of the star-studded event that includes Houston legends like Cynthia Cooper and Warren Moon.
