THE appointment of eleven judges to the Supreme Court has been recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
According to a statement released by Soji Oye, the Director of Information for the Supreme Court, the suggestion was made during the 104th meeting of the council today in Abuja.
The recommended people would take the oath of office following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of their recommendation and the Senate’s subsequent confirmation of their appointment.
With this appointment, the Supreme Court will have all 21 justices, as the Constitution intended.
The following people are suggested for appointment to the Supreme Court:
Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, OFR
Hon. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa
Hon. Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme
Hon. Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani
Hon. Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein
Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya
Hon. Justice Stephen Jonah Adah
Hon. Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru
Hon. Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur
Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar
Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris
In addition, the NJC recommended the appointment of Justice Mohammed Ramat to the Court of Appeal, along with six heads of courts and twenty-six other judicial officers, at its final meeting of the year.
The various State Governors who approved the appointment of the Heads of Court and the State Houses of Assembly that followed would confirm it before the Heads of Court were sworn in.
