SEVEN students from Nasarawa State’s Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) who were kidnapped four days ago have been released.
The students were released on Sunday evening thanks to the efforts of a joint team of military and other security officials and this was confirmed by Ibrahim Ogabo, President of the Student Representative Council.
At the time of publishing this report, the students, three females and four males, were at the school’s clinic.
The students were abducted on Wednesday night from their residence in Gandu village, prompting instant protest from their fellow students.
The protesters demanded the release of their colleagues and increased security in the area.
Gandu village, a well-known student hub, is one of six communities that are in close proximity to the school grounds. It houses about 6,000 students, mostly from the 300 to 500 level, because the institution does not provide lodging for them. Unfortunately, Gandu has been a target for criminal activities like as kidnappings and robberies, which have impacted both students and local residents, as well as businesses.
