VICTOR Osimhen and Napoli have verbally reached agreement to extend the striker’s contract at the club by one year, according to reports in Italy.

The Super Eagles star, who was named African Player of the Year at the CAF Awards in Morocco on Monday night, and the Serie A champions have been locked in negotiations over a new deal for months as clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool were linked with him.

Last night, Sky Sport Italia and European transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed that there was a breakthrough in the negotiations with the parties agreeing to a one-year extension.

Napoli chief Aurelio de Laurentiis and Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda reportedly met yesterday to achieve the breakthrough in the long negotiations.

Osimhen’s contract will now expire in 2026, with the Nigeria international to receive a significant pay rise.

The reports also claimed that a release clause of between €130m and €140m has been worked into the deal, meaning any interested club must cough up that amount.

Napoli and the 24-year-old Osimhen are expected to meet again this week to finalise the deal and make a formal announcement.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in September 2020 for a club record €80m and has registered 66 goals and 16 assists in 116 appearances.

He was the top scorer in Serie A last season as Napoli won their first Scudetto in 33 years.
