MICHAEL Olise scored in stoppage time to earn Crystal Palace a surprise 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium today, just as Chelsea and Newcastle United secured wins in other Premier League clashes, and the fixture between Bournemouth and Luton Town was abandoned in the second half.
Champions City were cruising at 2-0 against the struggling visitors after goals from Jack Grealish and youngster Rico Lewis, but Palace pulled one back in the 76th minute through Jean-Philippe Mateta to ensure a nervy finale.
Palace were then awarded a penalty in added time for Phil Foden’s foul on Mateta. Substitute Olise, who has Nigerian heritage, stepped up to coolly convert.
The result, the fifth time Manchester City have dropped points in their last six Premier League games, leaves the champions in fourth spot, three points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats at Manchester United and Everton with a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United.
The visitors frustrated Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the first half but Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson struck after the break to earn Chelsea all three points.
The victory took Chelsea up to 10th in the table while Sheffield United remain bottom.
Also today, Newcastle United thrashed 10-man Fulham 3-0 at St James’ Park, while the fixture between Bournemouth and Luton Town was abandoned in the second half due to an incident.
Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch in the 65th minute and received initial treatment on the field.
He was later taken to hospital where he regained consciousness and was said to be ‘alert and responsive’.
However, the Luton Town players were not on the right frame of mind to continue after seeing their captain in such distress and the match was called off with scores at 1-1.
