Klopp warns Liverpool not to write off misfiring Man United

LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp has warned his side against complacency as they host Manchester United tomorrow.

Klopp’s side have handed out heavy defeats to their big English Premier League rivals in recent seasons, including a 7-0 hammering at Anfield last term and a 5-0 pasting at Old Trafford before that.

Despite Liverpool’s dominance of the fixture in recent times, Klopp is not overconfident, even as his side are currently on top of the Premier League table, 10 points clear of United.

“I never like it when the headlines about Manchester United aren’t good before we play them, because then that’s the game where they can put things right,” the German said during his pre-match press conference yesterday.

“I don’t like that at all. The more people say bad things about them, the stronger they become.

“And yes, the 7-0 we knew that day it was a freak result that happens once in a lifetime. If it helps anyone for the next game it is the team who lost 7-0 and not the team who won 7-0.”

Klopp expects a ‘special’ match against old rivals who have fallen off badly this season, getting knocked out early in the defence of their Carabao Cup and finishing bottom in their UEFA Champions League group behind FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

He added: “If we just play a football game against the historical rival at home at Anfield, that itself makes it a special game and that’s what I want to see – a special game.

“I don’t follow United closely enough to know exactly what the problem is, but I saw that Erik ten Hag was manager of the month last month and I saw that they were the in-form team last month, so it can’t all be bad?”
