ADEMOLA Lookman scored the only goal today to earn Atalanta a 1-0 victory in his final Serie A appearance before heading off with the Super Eagles to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Nigeria international struck in the second half to lift Atalanta to sixth in the table in their quest for a top four finish.

After a first half of limited opportunities, Lookman found the breakthrough 13 minutes into the second half with a superb strike.

The former Everton star took the ball on the edge of the Lecce box and shimmied past a defender before drilling a precise effort into the bottom corner.

Lookman has now registered seven goals and three assists in 18 Serie A appearances for the rather inconsistent Atalanta this season.

They are four points adrift of fourth-placed Fiorentina and could drop to seventh if Roma get a result against Juventus later tonight.

Lookman, who has contributed two goals and three appearances in 11 Super Eagles appearances, was yesterday named in Nigeria’s 25-man squad for the 2023 AFCON, which will be his first major tournament with his national team.

The Super Eagles are in Group A with Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and hosts Cote d’Ivoire for the tournament scheduled for January 13 to February 11, 2024.
