NINE Ogun communities are currently without power due to a reduction in power generation from the Egbin power facility.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company stated this late yesterday night on its social media accounts.
According to the IBEDC, the decline in Egbin electricity generation has impacted Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
Others in the state are Sango, Ota, Ilaro, Ayetoro, Imeko, Mowe, Ibafo, and Magboro.
“Due to the drop in generation from the Egbin generation station, customers in the following communities: Sango, Ota, Ilaro, Ayetoro, Imeko, Mowe, Ibafo, Magboro, Abeokuta metropolis and environs are experiencing a power outage,” the IBEDC announced.
The distribution company said its technical team was working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the restoration of the power supply, even as it apologised for the inconvenience.
“Our technical team is working with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power supply is restored.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” the statement concluded.
The IBEDC on December 19, 2023, declared that ongoing maintenance at the Egbin Power Station had resulted in 0% load allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, leaving residents of Abeokuta in the dark.
The TCN had said that the power plant was shut down in December “to allow the Nigeria Gas Company (NGC) to maintain a linking gas pipeline supplying gas to Egbin Power Station”.
On Christmas Day, the DisCo apologised for what it called the “prolonged outage” now affecting Abeokuta and its surrounds, while promising power restoration on December 29.
The Egbin Power Plant, Nigeria’s largest thermal generating station in Lagos, is said to supply more than 16 percent of total electricity generated to the Nigerian National Grid, making it the heartbeat of power and the greatest generator of electricity to Africa’s most populous country.
