THE numbers the Super Eagles will have on the back of their jerseys during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have been confirmed, with captain Ahmed Musa retaining his usual No.7 and Victor Osimhen holding on to No.9.
There are 25 players named in the squad, as Yusuf Alhassan replaced the injured Wilfred Ndidi, but 24 of them are currently training in Abu Dhabi, with recovering Kelechi Iheanacho set to join them in Lagos on Tuesday.
The Confederation of African Football revealed the squad numbers for the Super Eagles and the 23 other teams last night.
The players will wear their assigned numbers throughout their teams’ stay in the tournament.
Under-fire goalkeeper Francis Uzoho still has the No.1 shirt, while newly called up South Africa-based shot stopper Stanley Nwabili has No.23 and Enyimba’s Ojo Olorunleke No.16.
In defence, Ola Aina is No.2, Zaidu Sanusi No.3 and William Troost-Ekong No.5.
Yusuf has the No.4 that was reserved for midfield lynchpin Ndidi, while Joe Aribo has the iconic No.10 and Alex Iwobi will wear No.17.
In attack, Samuel Chukwueze has the No.11, Iheanacho No.14, Ademola Lookman No.18 and Victor Boniface No.24.
AFCON 2023 is scheduled for January 13 to February 11 in Cote d’Ivoire, with Nigeria in Group A with Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
