THE Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an increase in the number of officers deployed on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway in response to rising security concerns.
According to reports, dozens of passengers were kidnapped on the highway by unknown gunmen.
The statement issued today in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the deployment is intended to boost safety and security in the area.
“Recognising the paramount importance of securing this critical transportation artery, the I-G has intensified deployments of police officers and security paraphernalia.
“This is aimed at leveraging advanced technology and strategic resources to bolster the overall security infrastructure along the route,” he said.
Egbetokun directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, Ede Ekpeji, to rigorously oversee the people assigned to operations along the route.
The IGP also stated that the proactive measure was intended to reassure citizens and passengers of their safety, as the heightened presence of security forces on the road would serve as a deterrence to criminal elements.
He emphasized the need of coordination among security agencies and concerned communities in the region, and urged the public to remain watchful, report suspicious activity, and cooperate with security officers.
The IGP noted also that united effort was critical to ensuring the safety and well-being of inhabitants and travelers along the route.
