THE Supreme Court has dismissed the petition by Tonye Cole and the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s petition against Siminalayi Fubara’s election as Rivers State governor because it lacked merit.

The court ruled that the appellant failed to show the accusations of noncompliance with the Electoral Act, among others.

The court found the appeal defective and rejected it.

Cole, the APC candidate in the March 18, 2023 election, was challenging Governor Fubara’s victory on the grounds that he had not resigned as Rivers State’s accountant general before to the election.

Cole further mentioned suspected anomalies, noncompliance with the Electoral Act, and corrupt activities, among others.

He sought to overturn the Court of Appeal and Tribunal decisions that confirmed Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the victor of the Rivers Governorship election.

THE apex court also affirmed the election of Ahmed Aliyu and Agbu Kefas as the governors of Sokoto and Taraba States.
